This kind of evil can be only driven out by prayer and fasting. San Francisco’s Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone has requested the following:
• Praying the rosary daily – and for families, to pray the rosary as a family at least once a week;
• Practicing Friday penance by abstaining from eating meat and one other additional act of fasting (e.g., another form of food or drink, or skipping a meal);
• Spending one hour of adoration before the Blessed Sacrament at least once a week.
I believe this is a good place to start. We need to turn to Our Lord and His Mother in this time of purification as Fr. Illo has addressed in his homily. He made the point that many Catholics left the Church long ago by no longer receiving the Eucharist. Some continue to come weekly but have abandoned the Sacrament of Confession and do not receive the Body and Blood of Our Lord worthily. The scandals and corruption in the Church today is the consequence. The good news is that we can make reparation. We too need to go through a period of purification because we too are the Church.
